From Question

Why should we support paid student teaching?

Transcript

Hi, I'm Alice Summers from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. I'm currently going into my junior year as an elementary education, and I have already gone through one semester of practicum, which is my pre-student teaching classroom fieldwork. And I have worked 144 hours throughout the whole semester and got no pay and little recognition as it's not my true student teaching. I did all of these hours on top of doing an 18 credit hour course load while also working 16 hours for minimum wage. It has been extremely hard for me to continue to stay in school to become the type of educator I want to share to the world when I don't have access to the funds for all the work that I do. I feel like student teachers deserve to be paid equitably and fairly for the work that they do. So, I urge you to support paying student teaching. Thank you.
